The Madison Police have developed a "person of interest" while investigating an incident from early Wednesday morning in which a severely-injured man was found by a patrol officer in the parking lot of a local auto parts store.
The police officer found a 24-year-old American Indian male at about 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot of NAPA Auto Parts on the 400 block of N.W. 2nd St. The officer determined the young male was an assault victim and called for an ambulance. The victim was transported to Madison Community Hospital and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls medical facility.
The police have withheld the name of the injured man at the victim's request. Detective Justin Meyer said the victim received facial and back abrasions, but he was later released from the hospital.
According to Meyer, the police have developed a person of interest through their investigation. Madison police officers are still interviewing witnesses, and they have determined that the assault occurred between midnight and 1:30 a.m.
Meyer requested that anyone who may have seen or heard anything on Wednesday night should call Madison Crimestoppers at 256-7531 and speak to any of the police officers.
