Johnson to serve five years in prison
By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter 02/02/2010
Travis Dean Johnson, 22, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of sexual contact with a child under 15 and child abuse on Monday in Third Circuit Court at the Lake County Courthouse.

Judge Tim D. Tucker sentenced Johnson in the Madison courtroom to at least five years imprisonment in the state corrections system.

For the charge of sexual contact with a child under 15, a Class 3 felony, Johnson was sentenced to 10 years in prison with five years suspended if he met certain conditions.

To qualify for suspended prison time, he has to pay $1,000 in fines and court costs, make restitution for the expense of a psychosexual evaluation, obtain sex offender treatment/counseling, have no contact with children under age 16, avoid possession of sexually-explicit material and pornography, submit to polygraph testing, and register as a sexual offender.

Conviction of a Class 3 felony can carry a sentence of up to 15 years imprisonment in the state penitentiary and/or up to a $30,000 fine.

For the charge of child abuse, a Class 4 felony, Johnson was sentenced to four years in the state penitentiary.

All fines and costs were waived on the second charge, but Johnson was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Class 4 felonies carry a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in state prison and/or up to a $20,000 fine.

Tucker made the prison sentences concurrent, meaning Johnson will serve both at the same time.
