Dakota State University's 8 percent boost in enrollment has resulted in a bump in the number of students living in the residence halls. Steve Bartel, director of student activities, said there are 545 students in the residence halls this fall, compared to 533 in 2007 and 561 in 2006.

County appoints Pedersen to fill Leighton vacancy

One of two Lake County Commission candidates eliminated in the primary election has now been seated on the county commission. Scott Pedersen was appointed to the commission on Tuesday to fill the vacancy left by the sudden death of Shirlee Leighton. Pedersen will sit on the commission for the duration of Leighton's term, which expires at the end of 2010.
